Kate Mellor- Photographer

Kate Mellor

The reason why I chose to look further into the photography work of Kate Mellor is because her work is very similar to fine art photography and landscapes. These are two topics that interest me to photograph myself. Her work also shows a fun aspect as in particular photographing fair grounds by the sea side linking to my topic of aspects of landscape. In her photography color is used which is different to previous photographers I have looked at which gives me influence on what colors to enhance to create a professional photograph.Furthermore her photography also involves pictures of buildings which is something that I have planned to shoot in my project therefore her work is also giving me ideas on what angles look the most effective. Most of Kate Mellor's photography focuses on scale of landscapes which is my starting point allowing her work to give me inspiration.

This photograph was taken by the photographer Kate Mellor and is showing the aspect of texture in the landscape. This photograph is very captivating this is because it was edited with very low curves and levels to bring out the deep tones in the landscape. This makes the photograph look very dark and sinister which makes the photograph stand out. The textures are seen much clearer because this photograph doesn't highlight the aspect of scale however Kate Mellor has focused more on a smaller area to bring out the aspect of texture and tone in a landscape. The idea of photographing a chair in the middle of a landscape is very different and shows the message of isolation in the photograph. The rough textures of the uneven concrete and stone walls create a very interesting picture and makes the whole of the photograph look very mystical.

This photograph was also captured by the photographer Kate Mellor and shows the aspect of scale in a landscape. This is because the position that the photograph was taken at allows the whole landscape to be shown in the photograph which exaggerates the aspect of scale. Furthermore the very sleek and dark colours in the photograph create a very surreal photograph and make the sky the focus point of the whole photograph. This is because the deep tones in the sky are very captivating and create a very eery atmosphere. The idea of photographing landscape with a statue and buildings in the photograph show a contrast between natural and man- made. This is an idea that I would like to do in my own project as its an development from the aspect of scale in a natural landscape.

This photograph was captured by the photographer Kate Mellor and is a photograph of a man made photograph of buildings. The technique used in this photograph is overlay and this technique is very effective this is because it creates a more interesting photograph and creates a reflection of the man made building. The colours in this photograph are very different and stand out which draws the viewers eyes to the photograph instantly. This photograph shows the aspect of scale in landscape as the building is overlaid to make it enhance and seem bigger than what it is. This photograph has been taken from a slight low angle to make sure the reflection of the building is accurately shown in the image. The framing of this photograph is very tight and has been taken with precise thoughts behind in. This photograph is inspiration for my own work this is because this technique is something that interests me as I feel its very creative and the idea of man made in a landscape is something that I can show contrast between my natural landscapes that I will also shoot.

This photograph is captured by the photographer Kate Mellor and is a landscape photograph of a the setting leading up to the sea side. The colours in this photograph are very warming and the idea of using yellow and blue colours create a very stunning photograph. This photograph is showing the aspect of scale and this is through the wide angle technique that has been used. This photograph shows  the sky as a captivating part of this photograph this is because of the different colours and clouds in the sky make it look very iconic. Furthermore the composition of this photograph is very accurate and allows the small wall to converge outwards to create a sense of depth. This photograph is very influential for me because depth is an aspect that I would like to focus and experiment with in my own landscape photographs. In addition this photograph was taken when the sun was rising this creates the whole photograph to look very bright and light up the whole landscape. This is one of the main sources that make this is photograph beautiful to look at. This photograph shows the contrast between man made and natural as the grass and plants compared to the buildings show this. overall this photograph is very effective and eye catching which I will use as inspiration for my own photography shoots.

The influence that Kate Mellor has on my own photography work is the contrast she uses between man made and natural. This is shown through the majority of her photographs and this makes the landscape more interesting in my eyes. I will use this is several of my photography shoots to show a connection I have made between my own work and Kate Mellor's. Furthermore the techniques that she has used especially overlay also is an influence on my own work as this technique is very intriguing and will show a reflection in my landscape photography making the photograph appear more creative and unique.

Overall I feel that the photographer Kate Mellor has been very interesting to analyse further into and to see what inspiration I can gain from her photography work. Her locations, techniques and angles of her photographs are very complex and give me a lot of ideas to develop from in my own photography work. Kate Mellor's colours that she used are very warming and create a positive atmosphere in her photograph. As well as her tones that she uses in her photography create depth that make her photographs stunning. All these aspects that she uses in her landscapes will be aspects that I will experiment with to see what works best in my work.
